A ticket to somewhere tiny
On the highest shelf in the workshop sat a snowglobe that nobody remembered winding. Yet that evening, a tiny train inside it went toot-toot! Twinkle lifted it down. Alex leaned close as two golden tickets floated out through the glass. A doorway of swirling snow opened beside the table. “Well,” said Twinkle, straightening a hat, “I believe our train has arrived.”
The quietest station
One step later, they stood at a snowy station beside a train the color of cranberry jam. A fox conductor checked a pocket watch. The lamps were glowing. The seats were polished. But every carriage was empty. “It’s the Winter Welcome supper,” the fox explained. “We’re meant to bring everyone to the big station.” Alex noticed a bundle of envelopes beneath the bench. Not one had been delivered.
The first invitation
“Then we’ll invite them now,” said Twinkle. The train stopped at a little burrow, where two rabbit siblings were setting out supper for two. Alex offered an envelope. “There’s a place for you on our train.” Next door, a hedgehog peeked out with a parcel. “May I bring this?” “Of course,” said Alex. “And yourself. That’s the important part.” Soon, the first carriage was full of cheerful rustling.
Room for one more
At the next stop, a badger waited with a basket of warm buns. The carriage seemed full. Twinkle almost waved the train onward, but Alex spotted coats and parcels on the seats. Together, they moved the parcels to a rack and hung the coats on hooks. There was room after all. The badger climbed aboard. “I wondered if you’d forgotten me.” “Not a chance,” said Twinkle.
The Winter Welcome
By the time the Snowglobe Express reached the big station, its windows glowed with smiling faces. Long tables waited beneath evergreen garlands. The rabbit siblings unfolded napkins, the hedgehog shared paper decorations, and the badger passed around the buns. Alex and Twinkle helped the fox bring in the last lantern. The supper had started late, but nobody minded. Everyone had arrived together.
The best thing to bring home
Their return tickets gave a gentle shimmer. With a wave and a last warm bun, Twinkle and Alex stepped back into the workshop. The snowglobe was small again. Inside, the train circled a station bright with celebration. “What shall we remember?” asked Twinkle. Alex placed the two tickets beside the globe. “That an invitation is only the beginning. Making room is what turns it into a welcome.” Far away—or very nearby—the train answered: toot-toot!
